The Schroeder Zine - 25 years later
Welcome back to the Schroeder Zine. Please be prepared to be flooded with the useless and sometimes downright stupid information we plan on providing you. For those of you joining us for the first time, here's our condensed backstory...
25 years ago the Schroeder Zine published its final issue. At the time we didn't know it would be the final issue. Also, no one other than us really cared or noticed that it fizzled out. We all had a lot of fun photocopying and assembling the zine over the course of its 5 issue run. We attended tons of ska and punk shows, and wrote questionable reviews about them. We scoured the horror movie section of our local video store and wrote about movies that no one had heard of or cared about. We spent hours cutting up paper and taping it into place prepping the layout to be copied. We had a P.O. Box where record labels would send promo CDs and vinyl to be reviewed and where people would send us SASE to get copies of the zine sent to them. We even participated in the NYC Zine Fest at the now defunct Wetlands club in NYC. We ended our run with about 100 subscribers from NY to California to Florida, and even had a couple subscribers in PR and Canada. We interviewed bands like the Slackers and Spring Heeled Jack, and made great friends and memories.
Okay, enough with the nostalgia. We decided to bring back the zine because even though we're all approaching middle age, and have sort of matured, we still love making each other laugh with silly ideas and articles, still love music, still love watching films and TV, and still talk with each other about it in the dumbest terms possible. Might as well share it with the world for a new generation to ignore.
